“Earth” is a charity single released by American rapper Lil Dicky, featuring 30 artists, one of them being Justin Bieber. It was released on April 18, 2019, in anticipation of Earth Day 2019.
Background[]
Lil Dicky started the session the same day he started the the sesion for “Freaky Friday”.[1] At Coachella 2018, he played the demo song for Justin Bieber during breakfast.[2] Lil Dicky wanted to put it out by Earth day, he was working on it last year on Earth day, but it wasn't ready so he wasn't going to rush it. [1]
Rumors of the collaboration started when Bieber retweeted Lil Dicky's tweet New song and video next week.[3] Bieber confirmed the collaboration on Twitter a few days later.[4] Dicky released a preview of the video that would be released the following day. It features the names of 30 celebrities, including Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Leonardo DiCaprio and Miley Cyrus, among others.[5] Each celebrity represents a different type of animal.[6]
Music video[]
The music video opens with a boy skating around the town on his way to meet his friends. The group proceeds to try to shove one of the members in a street trashcan, knocking it over in the process and dumping its contents on the street, a reference to people polluting the Earth with trash. Lil Dicky then appears and a comedic change of words with the boys follows his appearance. The group then runs away, with one of the kids staying behind to pick up the trash. He discovers a book and opens it and music starts playing. The book tells the story of the creatures living on Earth as an animated video.
Justin Bieber is the opening feature, playing a baboon because Lil Dicky wanted him to open the song.[7]
