“Right Here” is a song by two Canadian musicians Justin Bieber and Drake, it's the sixth track from the album Believe.
Background[]
Originally, Hit-Boy went to a session that Usher had, and played the song for Usher. He said, “You should play the song for Justin Bieber.” Justin cut the song, and then they were supposed to be working with Diplo. Diplo was playing beats and then next thing you know, he said, “You know what, guys? I’m going to just go cook up some fresh beats. You all can work on whatever you want.” Justin Bieber said, “Yo, Hit-Boy just sent some beats. You want to play ‘em?” So, he played the “Right Here” beat. Justin said, “We’re going to load this up and work now.”
In 2024, Hit-Boy revealed on Instagram that Big Sean and J. Cole had a song together called "24k of Gold" with the same beat, and he had to choose who to give the beat. He ultimately decided on Bieber and Drake since Big Sean told him that it was a good thing for him if he chose to give the beat to them. In September 2012, Big Sean released his song with J. Cole but with a different beat.[2]
There was a moment when Justin Bieber pulls the table up to the microphone, lowers the mic, and starts making drum patterns on the table to add to the song. Then, Justin said, “Yo, bro, I love this song so much, I’m calling Drake right now”. Drake said, “I love it. I’m jumping on it.” The song was done, so Hit-Boy wondered if Drake would write a new verse. Drake cut Hit-Boy's bars.[3]
"The Drake thing is something he and Drake have been talking about for like two years," Scooter Braun said to MTV News. "And then they finally went into the studio, and they wrote that song together. ... I'm glad that 'Right Here' came about. ... Drake was like, 'I don't want to do just a rap song. I want to sing with you, do a song for the ladies.'"[4][5]
Justin Bieber and Drake only spent one night in the studio and didn't have time to finish the song because Drake had to go on tour. He finished the song when he got back. This song took the longest to make on Believe.[6][7] At the Believe listening party in April 2012, Justin Bieber played the song that did not have Drake on it yet.[8]
