Usher is Justin's mentor and he's like a big brother of Justin Bieber.

Relationship[]

“He’s making his own decisions and it’s important to show support. I can say I’m not happy with all the choices my friend has made, but I’m supportive of him. I try my hardest to give as much positive reinforcement as I can. I’ll punch him in the f—ing chest when I need to, and give him a hug and kiss when I need to. It’s more than just mentoring. I love the kid.”
— Usher on Justin Bieber in 2014.[1]

Usher’s road manager asked Scooter Braun if he had signed a new artist since Asher Roth. Braun showed him Bieber’s YouTube clips, and within a day Usher called him to set up a meeting. What the R&B star didn’t realize, however, was that he had already heard Bieber sing a few months prior. “I said, ‘You’ve met him already,’ and Usher was like, ‘I thought he was your cousin or something,’ ” Braun said to Billboard. The second meeting with Usher took place the day before Bieber and Braun had their final meeting with Timberlake. Usher brought in Hicks to seal the deal with Reid, who himself had signed Usher as a young teen.[2]

In 2020 Usher said he was very proud of Justin, he shared, “I've seen him go through some very very complicated times. Always happy when he decides to come back to what it is that he loves and not falter in that.”[3]
